Sophie Castille (1970-2022)
Wir trauern um Sophie Castille, Direktorin für Auslandsrechte für Dargaud, Dupuis und Lombard – und so viel mehr für ihre Familie und ihre Freund:innen und die internationale Comicszene. Seit Ende der Neunzigerjahre hat Sophie Brücken gebaut für die Bandes Dessinées und deren Autor:innen, aus Frankreich hinaus in die ganze Welt.
Sie hat reglmäßig Städte auf vielen Kontinenten besucht: Guadalajara und São Paulo, Madrid und Barcelona, Taiwan und Peking, Lucca und Bologna, Tokyo, Warschau und Prag, Frankfurt und Erlangen, Toronto, New York und San Diego – die Liste der Orte, Comicfestivals und Buchmessen, die sie besucht hat, ist nahezu unendlich. Sie hat Kontakte in alle Welt geknüpft und den französischen Comic mit Charme und Beharrlichkeit hinausgetragen wie niemand anders. Und sich lebhaft und begeistert für die Menschen interessiert, die die Bücher machen.
Für Media Participations – die Mediengruppe, zu der auch Dargaud, Dupuis und Lombard gehören – hat sie ein großartiges und stetig wachsendes Team für Auslandsrechte ins Leben gerufen, das ebenso wie sie die Welt bereist und weiterwirkt, wo sie begonnen hat.
Mit Geldern der Europäischen Kommision hat Sophie die digitale Plattform Europe Comics entwickelt, ein Schaufenster der Vielfalt der Europäischen Comics. Auf Europe Comics präsentieren belgische, deutsche, französische, italienische, polnische, serbische und spanische Verlage ihre Comics in englischer Sprache und können so weltweit gelesen werden.
Sophie liebte und lebte die Idee eines vereinten Europa. Sie war zu Hause in Mailand, in Paris, auf La Réunion und in Berlin. Mehr als fünfundzwanzig Jahre in ihrem Berufslebenwar sie ein steter Quell der Kreativität und hat Verleger:innen aus aller Welt motiviert und zum Austausch angeregt.
Unerwartet und viel zu früh ist Sophie gestorben – wir vermissen ihre strahlende Kraft.
We mourn the loss of Sophie Castille, director of foreign rights for Dargaud, Dupuis and Lombard – and so much more for her family and friends and the international comics scene. Since the late nineties, Sophie has built bridges for the bandes dessinées and their authors, out of France and around the world.
She has regularly visited cities on many continents: Guadalajara and São Paulo, Madrid and Barcelona, Taiwan and Beijing, Lucca and Bologna, Tokyo, Warsaw and Prague, Frankfurt and Erlangen, Toronto, New York and San Diego – the list of places, comic festivals and book fairs she has visited is almost endless. She has made contacts all over the world and has taken French comics far and wide with charm and perseverance like no one else, while being vividly and enthusiastically interested in the people who make the books.
For Media Participations – the media group that includes Dargaud, Dupuis and Lombard – she has created a magnificent and ever-growing foreign rights team that, like her, travels the world and continues to make an impact where she began.
With funding from the European Commission, Sophie has developed the digital platform Europe Comics, a showcase of the diversity of European comics. On Europe Comics, Belgian, German, French, Italian, Polish, Serbian and Spanish publishers present their comics in English and can be read worldwide.
Sophie loved and lived the idea of a united Europe. She was at home in Milan, in Paris, on La Réunion and in Berlin. For more than twentyfive years of her professional life, she was a constant source of creativity, motivating publishers from all over the world and encouraging them to exchange ideas.
Sophie died unexpectedly and much too early – we miss her radiant strength.
